When it comes to giving high quality CBD products for dogs, there are several ways you can go about doing so. The most common way is through oral gavage. This involves a syringe that administers the CBD directly into your dog’s stomach via his mouth. However, this method requires a lot of effort on your part and can be quite uncomfortable for your pet. So if you don’t want to do this, or if you’d rather not take any chances with your dog (or yourself), there are other options available.
CBD for dogs has been growing in popularity over the past few years, but many people don’t know how to give their pets the right amount of CBD oil for them. Here are some easy ways you can give your dog CBD oil without having to resort to a painful procedure like an oral gavage.
Oral Gavage Method
The Oral Gavage Method is the most traditional way to administer CBD orally to your dog. It requires someone who is skilled at administering medication to perform the task. Your dog will need to sit still while he receives the CBD oil. You’ll place the syringe against the inside of your dog’s lower jaw and inject the CBD oil slowly. When you’re done, your dog will probably have drool all over him.
If you’ve ever given your dog pain medication, you know how uncomfortable it can make him feel. And since CBD oil isn’t necessarily a pain-killer, it can also cause discomfort. But you can minimize these effects by following these tips:
Don’t give your dog too much. If you give your dog more than what he needs, the excess CBD will work its way down into your dog’s digestive system and could cause discomfort.
Try to give your dog the correct dosage. There are specific dosages for different breeds of dogs. Don’t assume that one dose is going to be right for your dog.
Make sure that your dog doesn’t chew on anything before and after you give him the CBD oil. Chewing on things can cause your dog to ingest foreign objects, which can lead to more complications.
Keep your dog’s food intake low. Since CBD works best when it’s absorbed quickly, it’s important that your dog eats less often. He should only eat every 2 to 3 hours.
Avoid using CBD products from multiple suppliers. Different companies use different types of CBD oils, and they may contain different amounts of active ingredients.
Other Methods
The following methods aren’t as traditional but they can still provide your dog with the benefits of CBD.
Spray Method
This method involves spraying the CBD oil onto your dog’s food. To do this, you’ll need a spray bottle. Using a pump, you’ll squirt the CBD oil into the bottle and then pour the contents directly onto your dog’s dry food. This method is convenient because it’s fast and easy. Plus, it prevents your dog from chewing everything up beforehand.
But you’ll need to ensure that you follow these guidelines:
Use the proper amount of CBD oil. The recommended dosage is 1mg per 10 pounds of body weight. So if you weigh 80 pounds, your dog should receive 80 drops of CBD oil.
Do not use CBD oil that contains THC. This will be listed on the product label.
Use a well-ventilated area. Do not administer CBD oil in enclosed spaces where the air quality is poor.
Use the right type of nozzle. The spray bottles come with two types of nozzles: a standard squeeze bottle or a trigger sprayer. Choose the right one depending on your dog’s size.
Gauze Method
Another option that you can try is the gauze method. Using a piece of gauze, you’ll wrap it around your dog’s abdomen. Then you’ll hold the gauze in place until the CBD oil has been absorbed completely.
This method also allows you to avoid having to administer the CBD oil by hand. Instead, you’ll just have to let the CBD oil absorb naturally into your dog’s digestive tract.
To use this method, you’ll first need to determine the amount of CBD oil needed. Again, you’ll need to consult a veterinarian or another knowledgeable person to learn the proper amount. Once you’ve determined the correct dosage, apply the CBD oil to the gauze and wrap it around your dog’s belly. Let him stand upright while you wrap the gauze bandage tightly around him. Remove it once the CBD oil has been fully absorbed.
Topical Treatment
One last option that you might consider is topical treatment. As you can imagine, CBD has a lot of benefits when consumed orally. But it also has benefits when applied topically. This is why you might see CBD oil being used as a massage cream or for treating skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.
So you might wonder whether it would be possible to give your dog CBD oil topically. After all, it would be similar to applying CBD oil to your own skin. Fortunately, it is possible to administer CBD orally in this way. You just won’t get the same effect since your dog’s gastrointestinal system won’t absorb the CBD as readily.
In order to give your dog CBD orally, you’ll first need to prepare a solution containing the CBD oil. In general, you’ll start off with 1ml of CBD oil per 20ml of water. Then, you’ll mix it together. Next, you’ll add enough water to bring the total volume up to 100ml. You can keep the mixture refrigerated until you’re ready to use it.
After you’ve prepared the solution, you’ll have to find a spot on your dog’s body that is clean and dry. Ideally, you’ll choose a place that gets a lot of direct sunlight. Then you’ll apply the solution topically. Use a cotton ball to rub the solution into your dog’s skin. And remember to remove it once it has been absorbed.

You can buy CBD oil online or at local health stores. You can even find CBD-infused edibles at select grocery stores. But these items aren’t legal everywhere. For instance, you can’t legally purchase CBD oil in Washington DC. That said, if you live outside of a state or city that prohibits the sale of CBD-containing products, you’re probably fine.
